Real Women

Fashions Unrealistic Look Upon The World

What do you think of when I say the phrase 'real women?’
Many people will have different answers and opinions varying from size 0, skinny minnies to curvy, voluptuous women

I’m sure you all know that recently, Debenhams have been introducing size 16 mannequins to their Oxford Street store in London. Doesn't that make you think that Fashion is changing? Evolving? Just think that none of this would’ve happened unless we embraced a curve or two and make this massive change in such a large retail store.

Men who dress as women are making more of an impact on fashion today. As transgender is becoming more accepted, we are seeing certain few shops stocking larger sizes to dress men. Do you think this is acceptable in today’s lifestyle? Or is the fashion world encouraging unnecessary controversy?

In my opinion, a 'real woman' is a healthy, content, confident woman. I believe our generation and the next generation are getting poor self-esteem levels from the media. Celebrities such as Kate Moss and Paris Hilton are bad influences, not only for their lifestyles, but for their body shape.

On the other hand, celebrities such as Kelly Brook, Holly Willoughby, Beyoncé and Adele set good examples towards women by having an exciting, positive lifestyle and accepting their body shape. See, many people would die to have a curvy body shape. Weight and body shape have become such a rampage in the media, especially in the Summer when our bikini bods come out.

When people say 'real women' or the word ‘curvaceous’ it doesn’t mean they're fat or over-weight. People have such strong and various opinions, but I honestly think they're being over dramatic and there's no need for women to be so self-conscious.

Fashion raises a lot of debates about what people think fashion or beauty is. In reality, fashion is not about size 0, stick thin, unhealthy, grumpy straight faced people. It's about embracing whatever you've got, healthy curves, hips and all - smiley people who are happy with wearing what they want. Who needs to tell us what to wear? We're perfectly capable to dress ourselves in whatever we like.

(All - not my own images)

In the fashion world, it is all about how skinny your waist is, how straight faced you can look. It's not realistic - it's aspirational yes - but not what the majority of the public can afford, let alone want to be. Is it because you want to buy into the community? But do you really want to be like that because a small handful of celebrities are? I have no desire to be as pointy as a cereal box and don't want to be seen as a grumpy person. This is what the fashion industry is brain washing us with. That's why us women are so body conscious. The media is brain washing us.

This is only my opinion and everyone's entitled to have their own, but personally I think the fashion world is one big, juicy daunting place, which I'm dying to get my teeth stuck into.
